Empowering Communities and Combating Food Insecurity: SWAN Diwali Food Distribution at the ACDC Food Warehouse Highlights close of weeklong Diwali Festival with Culturally-Sensitive Food Assistance

LAS VEGAS, NV  – November 18, 2023 – This week, the Asian Community Development Council (ACDC) is thrilled to honor and celebrate Diwali, the Festival of Lights, a Hindu festival that symbolizes the “spiritual victory of light over darkness, good over evil, and knowledge over ignorance.” Diwali is a major cultural event for the Hindu, Sikh, and Jain diaspora, and it is celebrated with immense enthusiasm across the world.

Diwali is traditionally celebrated over a period of five to six days, and the main day of the festival (the day of Lakshmi Puja; this year, Sunday, August 12) is an official holiday in several countries, including Fiji, Guyana, India, Malaysia, Mauritius, Myanmar, Nepal, Pakistan, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Suriname, and Trinidad and Tobago.

As part of the Diwali festivities, ACDC invites you to join us for a special Diwali Food Distribution event, in partnership with the South-Asian Women’s Alliance of Nevada (SWAN). This event is a wonderful opportunity to come together as a community, learn more about this beautiful holiday, and distribute culturally satisfying food to those in need.
