THE ASIAN COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT COUNCIL (ACDC) HOSTS THE 9th ANNUAL COLLEGE READINESS BOOTCAMP AT UNLV

ORGANIZED BY ACDC, UNLV DECA & THE LEADERSHIP CONNECTIVITY EQUITY GROUP LLC,  THE EVENT ENGAGES LOCAL HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS IN ACTIVITIES AND INFORMATIONAL SESSIONS TO TAKE THE NEXT STEPS TOWARDS A HIGHER EDUCATION

LAS VEGAS, NV  – September 30, 2023 – The Asian Community Development Council (ACDC), UNLV DECA and The Leadership Connectivity Equity Group LLC are proud to announce the 9th Annual College Readiness Bootcamp

The College Readiness Bootcamp (CRB)  is a flagship initiative that was officially inaugurated in 2017, representing one of ACDC’s pioneering programs that originated in 2015. This program was conceived to bridge the gap between colleges and college-bound students by approaching the entire process holistically and extending support to a wide and diverse cross-section of the Las Vegas community. Since its inception, the College Readiness Bootcamp has positively impacted the lives of over 3,000 local high school students. It has achieved this by addressing critical aspects such as standardized testing, college selection, adapting to college life, navigating the intricate financial aid process, applying for scholarships, and offering an interactive learning experience at a prestigious local university.

From the outset, the College Readiness Bootcamp has provided a nurturing environment for students embarking on their higher education journey while specifically addressing the unique needs of underrepresented and underserved populations. This event underscores ACDC’s unwavering commitment to youth mentorship, supporting students who often find themselves breaking new ground within their families and communities. Whether they are first-generation college students or pioneers in designing their own academic pathways, ACDC empowers CRB attendees with valuable tools, best practices, and an array of essential resources. This year will feature speakers from the College Board and interactive sessions using the Board’s new BigFuture® website & app.

The 2023 College Readiness Bootcamp will occur at the UNLV Student Ballroom, on Saturday, September 30th, from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. ACDC is pleased to announce that this event is open to all interested 9th-12th grade students and their parents, and it is entirely free of charge. This year will feature an inspirational keynote address by the Honorable Patricia Lee.

The Asian Community Development Council (ACDC) extends its heartfelt gratitude to the University of Nevada, Las Vegas’ (UNLV) Department of Admissions for their invaluable cooperation & coordination.  We would also like to express our sincere appreciation to the generous sponsors who have made this event possible:  Cox Communications,  Arcata Associates, and Caesars Entertainment. Furthermore, we extend our thanks to the following individuals and organizations for their dedicated time and expertise during this event: the College Board, BigFuture®, Reed College, College of Southern Nevada (CSN), University of Nevada, Reno (UNR), Nevada State University (NSU), Bright College Counseling, the National Alliance on Mental Illness [NAMI], the Nevada State Treasurer’s Office.
